AMMAN — A search is under way in Irbid for suspects in connection with the shooting death of a man in the northern governorate last week, official sources said.
The shooting incident, which took place in the town of Naaymeh, some 80km north of Amman, late Thursday night also left one person injured, a senior official source said.
The two men were involved in a brawl with other unidentified men when they were shot, he added.
Both the victims, in their 20s, were rushed to a nearby hospital where one was declared dead on arrival, while the second remains hospitalised and is listed in fair condition, the source told The Jordan Times.
A post-mortem examination conducted by a team of pathologists headed by Ali Shotar determined that the victim died of a single bullet wound, a medical source said.
“The bullet penetrated the victim’s right lung and struck his heart, killing him,” the medical source told The Jordan Times.
Police gathered evidence from the scene and interviewed witnesses to determine who was involved in the shooting, according to the official source.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi was unavailable to comment on the case.
