AMMAN – Hundreds of Jordanians responded to a call by the Muslim Brotherhood to gather in downtown Amman on Friday to express solidarity with Jerusalem.

Following the noon prayer at Al Husseini Mosque, around 1,000 demonstrators marched in the city centre waving Jordanian, Palestinian and Muslim Brotherhood flags.

They also held banners expressing solidarity with Al Aqsa Mosque as well as posters with photos of the movement’s deputy overall leader, Zaki Bani Rsheid, who was arrested on November 20 for a post on his Facebook page and is currently awaiting trial at the State Security Court for “harming relations between Jordan and a foreign state”.

Ahmad Harasees, one of the demonstrators, said Muslims have to do more for the sake of Al Aqsa.

Zakria Nouf, another participant, described the case of Jerusalem as an “international” issue.

“There are many conspiracies being designed against Jerusalem,” he said.

Ali Khalaileh stressed that Palestine is not only a matter of land, it is an important issue for all Muslims.

“Al Aqsa is an issue of a great concern for not only for the Palestinians, but also Muslims all over the world. These demonstrations also send a message to Palestinians that we are supporting you,” Khalaileh added.
