AMMAN — The criminal prosecutor on Sunday charged a 33-year-old man with murder in connection with the death of his one-month-old daughter in Zarqa a day earlier, official sources said.
The suspect reportedly flung his daughter on the pavement while he was walking with his wife on a street in Zarqa, Public Security Department Spokesperson Major Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
“Based on the wife’s testimony, she had a heated argument with her husband and he snatched their daughter from her arms and hurled her on the pavement,” Sartawi said.
The husband, however, denied these allegations and claimed that “his daughter fell from his arms while he was carrying her,” according to the police official.
The infant was rushed to Prince Faisal Hospital in Zarqa, 22km east of Amman, where she was declared dead on arrival, a medical source said.
Pathologists Ibrahim Obeidat and Zeid Azzeh, who conducted a post-mortem, concluded that the victim died of a brain haemorrhage and fractured skull, the medical source told the Jordan Times.
The criminal prosecutor is currently questioning witnesses and issued orders for the suspect to be detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation into the incident.
