Israel wants to silence journalists — media watchdog
By JT - Jul 22,2014 - Last updated at Jul 22,2014
AMMAN — The Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) on Tuesday called on international organisations to take immediate steps to save journalists deployed in the Gaza Strip, which is under attack by the Israeli army.
In a statement, a copy of which was sent to The Jordan Times, CDFJ said the Israeli attacks on journalists in Gaza are in violation of international conventions and human rights, adding that the Israeli occupation authorities have been cracking down on journalists in the coastal enclave and preventing them from reporting on the ongoing aggression there.
The centre also mentioned international media outlets that have been targeted by the Israeli air strikes on Gaza and journalists who have been either killed or injured in the attacks.
CDFJ said Israel has been targeting journalists and preventing them from reporting because they uncover its crimes against the Palestinian people.
