Saudi health ministry has taken measures regarding MERS — Dawood

AMMAN — Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood on Sunday said the Saudi health ministry has taken special measures to prevent the spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus during the lesser and greater Muslim pilgrimages to Mecca.

The ministry has recommended postponing the performance of umra and Hajj for the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to ensure their safety, Dawood said.

At present, work is under way to sort out the names and age groups of those who expressed their desire to perform Hajj to decide on those who meet the stipulated conditions, the minister said.
