Baqaa camp leaders reject creating ‘substitute homeland’ in Jordan

AMMAN — Baqaa Refugee Camp leaders on Sunday expressed their rejection of establishing a substitute homeland for Palestinian refugees in Jordan, stressing that refugees’ right to return to Palestine is irrevocable.
During a meeting with Senate President Abdur-Ra’uf S. Rawabdeh, leaders of the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan stressed the need to maintain national unity.
They also commended His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts in serving the Palestinian issue and defending the legitimate rights of Palestinians to have an independent state on their national soil.

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reasserted that Jordan is Jordan and Palestine is Palestine, stressing that talk about Jordan “a substitute homeland” for Palestinians is baseless, a Royal Court statement said.
The notion of “a substitute homeland for Palestinians in Jordan” is being manipulated by certain political figures to place pressure on the establishment and decision makers to gain personal benefits, analysts and politicians agreed on Monday.
Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim Jabouri left the Kingdom on Tuesday at the end of a three-day official visit during which he held talks with His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Senate President Abdur-Ra’uf S. Rawabdeh, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh and other senior officials.
