AMMAN — Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni said on Tuesday that the government has been fighting “structural obstacles” that hinder gender equality. Talhouni was speaking during a conference titled “Gender-based Violence: Social, Health and Legal Services Reality in Jordan” at the University of Jordan (UJ).
The minister noted that Jordan has made great strides towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment. Abdul Karim Qudah, president of UJ, stressed the importance of the conference, which was organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies and the Tokyo Foundation, adding that the university will continue its support to women and enhance their participation in serving their communities.
