Two smuggling attempts foiled

AMMAN — Eastern Military Zone personnel, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department, have foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs from Syria into Jordan, a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said on Sunday. Spotting some people approaching the borders, JAF personnel at the zone applied the rules of engagement, forcing the suspects to retreat, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

After searching the area, security agents seized 600,000 captagon pills, 12 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 182 Kalashnikov bullets, which were all referred to relevant authorities, the source added. 

Also on Sunday, security agencies thwarted an attempt to smuggle 500,000 narcotic pills into a neighbouring country and arrested six suspects, including an Arab national, Petra quoted the Public Security Department spokesperson as saying. The pills were hidden in a vehicle with an Arab plate number, the spokesperson said, adding that the suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor general.
