AMMAN — Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Fayez on Thursday inaugurated the Ajloun Visitors Centre, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He pointed out that Ajloun witnesses tourist footfall round the year due to its natural and environmental features in addition to its “unique atmosphere”.

The minister pointed out that the focus has been on domestic tourism, especially the “Urdun Jannah” programme, which was launched by the ministry to encourage domestic tourism.

He emphasised that preserving the environment and the cleanliness of tourist sites can only be achieved through efforts by the concerned authorities and strengthening teamwork.

The Ministry of Tourism and the Department of Public Antiquities are keen to support efforts aimed to limit the spread of the coronavirus, he said. He added that the percentage of employees who received the vaccine has reached about 90 per cent.

He called on the public to take the vaccine to preserve public safety and contribute to the recovery of all sectors, especially tourism.

For his part, the Ajloun governor highlighted the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns to tackle negligent waste dumping practices.
