AMMAN — The Ministry of Tourism’s “Urdun Jannah” programme, which encourages domestic tourism, has attracted nearly 20,000 participants since the beginning of the year.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on Sunday said that approximately 529 tourist buses have transported citizens to designated tourist hotspots, departing from various governorates.

The programme will continue during the fasting month of Ramadan with some modifications to the travel schedules, as the buses will depart in the afternoon to allow participants to reach their destination, have iftar (the breaking of the fast), visit tourist areas and return to their starting points, according to a ministry statement reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The statement added that the prices of the travel packages for a single day are fixed at JD10, which include specialised transportation, a tour guide and a meal. However, the overnight stay prices vary depending on the hotel's star rating. The prices range from JD15 per person in two-star hotels to JD40 in five-star hotels.

According to the statement, the programme's team has developed a new vision that considers the latest developments in the tourism sector.

The ministry and tourism authority seek to provide trips that satisfy visitors, focus on empowering local communities and target local service providers to impact them financially and improve their SMEs, the statement read.

The ministry added that the "Urdun Jannah" team continuously evaluates and reviews the programmes, considering new additions such as the Ajloun cable car, which will be added to the Urdun Jannah travel packages after its launch.
