Tamkeen marks Int’l Domestic Workers' Day with focus on rights

AMMAN — Jordanian NGO Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights (Tamkeen) on Tuesday called for ensuring balance between the rights and duties of both the employers and domestic workers.
In a statement, issued on the occasion of the International Domestic Workers' Day celebrated on June, 16, Tamkeen said that registered domestic workers in Jordan in 2020 totalled 33,777 including 10,402 with Filipino and 8,095 with Bangladeshi nationality.
There are about 30,000 non-regular female domestic workers in Jordan, according to the statement reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Tamkeen last year received a total of 346 complaints made by domestic workers related to holding their passports and salaries.
