Suspect detained in theft of JD50,000

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel in the northern region detained a man on Monday suspected of stealing JD50,000 from a citizen, and returned most of the money to the victim, the police said on Tuesday.

The victim had filed complaint that JD50,000 was stolen from his car, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement.

Investigation by CID Irbid personnel led to a man who was previously convicted of theft.

Investigators found the suspect in Ajloun and detained him in a house raid, where they found JD19,000.

He confessed to the theft in cooperation with two other people whom the PSD is still looking for.

The man also confessed to committing two other similar crimes with the same partners.

The PSD urged citizens to exercise caution when withdrawing large sums of money.
