Solar station opened at Aqaba Customs Centre

AMMAN — Finance Minister Omar Malhas on Thursday inaugurated a solar cells project operating at 50 kilowatts at a cost of JD64,000 at the Aqaba Customs Centre, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister said that the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) has implemented a number of projects that adopt the green building codes in order to achieve its strategic goals, stressing that such initiatives enhance the department's performance.
JCD Director General Waddah Hmoud explained that the customs department was among the first public institutions to set up solar stations, pointing out that these stations have saved JD2.1 million and reduced CO2 emissions by 2,480 tonnes last year, while this year's savings are expected to exceed JD14 million.
