AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Thursday met Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen, and an accompanying delegation.

The two sides discussed means of advancing economic and development cooperation, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

Shraideh urged the Danish side to increase the assistance directed to the Kingdom.

The planning minister called for optimising the Arab-Danish partnership programme during the next period, focusing on the economic opportunities and employment programmes, the statement said.

The minister also highlighted the importance of supporting the Kingdom’s economy through investment and boosting trade between the two countries.

Talks also went over the current situation in the region and means of advancing bilateral relations.

Shraideh briefed the gathering on the Kingdom’s economic condition, as well as efforts to increase growth and employment opportunities for Jordanians.

He also reviewed the challenges facing the Kingdom, in addition to the government’s priorities in the next stage.

The Danish delegation’s visit to Amman is meant to meet Jordanian officials over issues of shared interest, notably the Syrian refugee crisis, its impact on Jordan, the Kingdom’s efforts as a refugee-host country, in addition to check on the condition of refugees and host-communities.

Shraideh also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards refugee-hosing countries, especially Jordan.

He highlighted the drop in the volume of assistance made to the response plan over the last two years.

Commending the two countries longstanding relations, the Danish minister expressed his country’s readiness to continue support for Jordan and look for additional means to bolster cooperation over the issue of the Syrian refugees in the region.

He acknowledged the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan, commending the Kingdom’s humanitarian role in receiving Syrian refugees and offering them the basic services.
