Planning minister, Belgium’s Kitir talk economic cooperation

AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Monday met with Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation and Major Cities Policy Meryame Kitir and discussed means of strengthening economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Shraideh briefed the Belgian minister on the government’s economic priorities programme for 2021-2023, highlighting efforts to push the economy forward and place it on a trajectory for recovery.
Talks also went over the economic impact of receiving the Syrian refugees to the Kingdom, as well as the situation of refugees in host communities and camps, according to a Planning Ministry statement.
Shraideh urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards refugee-hosting countries, notably Jordan, as donors’ support has declined significantly during the past two years.
He called for supporting the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) for this year.
Kitir expressed her country’s readiness to continue supporting Jordan, lauding the Kingdom’s humanitarian role in receiving Syrian refugees and offering them basic services.
