Senator urges Jordan to join COMESA Treaty

AMMAN — Head of the Jordanian-French Friendship Committee at the Senate, Senator Issa Murad, stressed the need for Jordan to join the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Treaty, whose countries achieve high economic growth.

Participating in a session titled "Economic and trade relations between Jordan, the Middle East and Francophone countries," Murad stressed that Jordan needs to look for new economic and trade partnerships in order to overcome current difficulties and challenges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.  

During the session, held as part of the fourth Conference for French-Speaking Business Owners, the senator noted that the African states in COMESA achieve "remarkable" economic growth rates, which should prompt Jordan to join the treaty and utilise the economic advantages it offers. 

For his part, Executive Director of the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) Abdelfattah Kayed said that JEDCO is concerned with the development and support of various economic sectors through clear and strategic action plans. 

Kayed stressed that there are considerable opportunities between Jordan and Francophone countries to increase trade and establish partnerships in value-added projects and complementary industries.

For his part, the President of the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Projects in Senegal referred to the economic and trade relations between Jordan and Senegal, noting that the economic partnership should continue to be advanced.
