AMMAN — Jordan is entering its second centennial by embarking on a new phase of comprehensive reform led by His Majesty King Abdullah on various political, economic and administrative spheres, according to Senate President Faisal Fayez.
Addressing a Dubai-held business symposium, organised by the Jordan Business Council at Dubai Chambers, with the participation of Jordanian and Emirati businesspeople and investors, Fayez emphasised that Jordan has made constitutional amendments and enacted new laws for parliamentary elections and political parties to enhance political and party life and achieve programmatic parliamentary governments.
Political reform aims to achieve the Jordanian democratic model, expand popular participation, strengthen active citizenship, empower women in public life and promote their political empowerment as “a strong gateway” to economic empowerment, he added, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Regarding strategies related to the economy and administration, King Abdullah envisions modernising the economy to create a prosperous Jordan that can effectively tackle economic and social challenges while reducing poverty and unemployment, he said. This policy focuses on self-reliance, revitalising public administration and improving services provision, he noted.
