AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Saturday condemned the Israeli occupation forces and settlers’ "brutal" practices and recurrent assaults on the Palestinians and violations at Al Aqsa Mosque as well as the Islamic and Christian holy sites, the most recent of which was the targeting of worshippers at Al Aqsa on early morning Friday.

In press remarks,   Fayez warned against the repercussions of the Israeli criminal and provocative acts against the unarmed Palestinians and Islamic and Christian holy shrines, calling on the Israeli authorities to stop all provocative actions in Jerusalem and the occupied territories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Condemning the international community's “silence”, he called on the governments around the world to move towards “more serious and solid positions to put an end to Israel's state terrorism against the Palestinians and holy shrines”.

He also expressed the Upper House's support for all efforts put by His Majesty King Abdullah towards defending Jerusalem and the resilience of Jerusalemites.

Also on Saturday, the Lower House denounced the Israeli occupation forces' violations Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and assault on worshippers.

In a statement, the Lower House said that all violations at the Islamic and Christian holy shrines, notably attempts to desecrate Al Aqsa Mosque and assaults worshippers, are regarded as transgressing the sanctity of the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Lower House urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to protect the mosque and the worshippers, and to take decisive steps to halt the repeated Israeli violations against the Palestinian people. It called on Israel, as an occupying force, to abide by international laws.

The dangerous escalation would undermine efforts to realise just and comprehensive peace, the statement said, adding that "immediate and rapid intervention is needed to halt all heinous Israeli violations against the Palestinian people".

The Lower House also called on the Palestinians to complete the Palestinian reconciliation process as soon as possible to best serve their just cause.
