Rate of Jordanian workers in 100 largest companies grew by 2.8% in 2021 — SSC

AMMAN  — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) on Tuesday announced that the rate of Jordanian workers in the 100 largest companies and institutions in Jordan grew by 2.8 per cent in 2021, compared to a decline of 3.7 per cent in the rate of non-Jordanian workers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The total number of workers in these companies reached about 167,100 in 2021, compared with 165,000  workers, with a growth of 0.8 per cent, the SSC noted, adding that it remains less than the number recorded in the year prior to the coronavirus, at the end of 2019 by about 7 per cent.

The corporation explained that this decline was mainly driven by a decrease in the number of non-Jordanian workers by about 21 per cent, compared to an increase in the number of Jordanian workers, which amounted to about 2 per cent, highlighting that employment in these companies constitutes about 23 per cent of the total number of workers in the private sector. 

With regard to the distribution of jobs between Jordanians and non-Jordanians by the 100 largest employers, Jordanian workers constituted about 70.1 per cent, with a total number of 117,200 workers, compared to 49,900 non-Jordanian workers, constituting 29.9 per cent of the total number of workers in these companies. 

The analysis conducted by the corporation showed that about 57 of the 100 largest employers of Jordanian workers witnessed an increase in the number of workers in 2021, with a total of 6,771 male and female workers.

The number of companies that witnessed an increase in Jordanian workers was 62, with an increase of 7,445 male and female workers.

The analysis also showed that 28 companies out of the 100 largest employers benefited from the sustainability programme, “Estidama”, with a total number of 23,200 Jordanian employees.
