Protests along borders pose threats to citizens — interior minister

AMMAN — Calls from some people for citizens to organise protests and head to the Jordan Valley and the borders with Palestine could pose a threat to them due to the "distinctive nature of the area from a security standpoint", Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said on Monday.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Faraya stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens in case they arrive in the area, reiterating their rights to expression and showing solidarity with Palestinians.
He called on the public to abide by the directives governing the exercise of the right to expression, all while recognising their feelings and anger at the systematic destruction and bombing of civilians in Gaza.
The minister also stressed Jordan's ongoing efforts towards de-escalation, preventing the displacement of the population from Gaza, preserving the lives of civilians and delivering urgent medical and relief assistance into Gaza.
Faraya noted that His Majesty is leading diplomatic efforts, through his current Europe tour to mobilise international support to halt the war on Gaza, prevent its spillover into the West Bank and ensure that it will not affect the stability of the entire region.
