PM, Palestinian counterpart discuss efforts to halt Israeli aggression on Gaza

AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Sunday received Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Palestine Mohammad Mustafa, reaffirming Jordan’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah.

During the meeting, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi, Khasawneh urged an immediate cessation of the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza and advocated for a political transition that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty on the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Khasawneh also underscored Jordan’s crucial role, under the King's leadership, in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and maintaining the historical and legal status quo.

The prime minister also briefed his Palestinian counterpart on the Kingdom’s efforts to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza. 

He also emphasised the initiatives to establish a political trajectory leading to an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, with clear timelines and commitments, and maintaining territorial integrity between the West Bank and Gaza as a fundamental basis for a sovereign and viable Palestinian state.

Khasawneh also reiterated Jordan’s commitment to the Palestinian issue, considering it a Jordanian matter due to historical, geographical, and close ties and highlighted the Kingdom’s steadfast support for the Palestinians. 

On bilateral cooperation, Khasawneh stressed that trade relations are “good” and ongoing efforts are being made to enhance them for the mutual benefit of both countries and people, highlighting the progress in the electrical interconnection project between the two countries and the continuous exploration of new avenues to enhance bilateral relations in various fields.

The prime minister and his Palestinian counterpart also agreed to convene a meeting of the Jordanian-Palestinian Joint Higher Committee soon in Amman to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation.

He extended his best wishes to the Palestinian prime minister for success in his duties after assuming his post, serving the Palestinian people and cause.

Mustafa expressed appreciation and gratitude from the Palestinian leadership and people for the King’s efforts in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, his continuous efforts to immediately stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and ensure the widespread and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid. 

He also emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral relations in various fields and the significance of convening the joint higher committee soon to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
