AMMAN — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday commended the courageous and fraternal stances of His Majesty King Abdullah.

President Abbas described these positions as a continuation of King Abdullah’s longstanding and steadfast support for the legitimate and just rights of the Palestinian people, as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He reiterated Jordan’s unwavering commitment to peace based on international legitimacy, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Abbas highlighted King Abdullah's dedication to preserving the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite custodianship.

The Palestinian president also commended King Abdullah’s announcement to host sick and injured children from Gaza for medical treatment, calling it an extension of Jordan’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, including operating field hospitals in Gaza and the West Bank.

President Abbas emphasised the importance of coordinated Arab efforts to adopt the Arab peace vision at the upcoming emergency Arab summit.

He also underscored the significance of the international coalition’s work to implement the two-state solution, secure international recognition of Palestine and hold an international peace conference in mid-2025, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.

President Abbas also expressed his gratitude for the steadfast positions of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and other allied and friendly countries in rejecting forced displacement and territorial annexation. He reiterated that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through the establishment of a Palestinian state, an immediate and complete cessation of Israeli war, urgent humanitarian relief for the Palestinian people and the assumption of the Palestinian Authority control over Gaza.

He also stressed that reconstruction efforts must proceed through a joint Palestinian-Egyptian-Arab plan, supported by the international community, to rebuild Gaza while preserving Palestinian presence on their land.

President Abbas also reiterated the Palestinian people's determination to remain in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, stating unequivocally that "Palestine is not for sale."

Also on Wednesday, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed King Abdullah’s stance during his meeting with US President Donald Trump, emphasising that it reflects the continued commitment of the Hashemite leadership to the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, as well as adherence to peace based on international legitimacy, the Arab Peace Initiative and the principle of the two-state solution.

The ministry also reiterated its appreciation for Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and all countries that have opposed the displacement of the Palestinian people and the annexation of their land.

The ministry also emphasised the urgent need for a complete cessation of hostilities, immediate humanitarian relief and the reconstruction of war-torn areas in line with a well-structured plan that enjoys broad Palestinian, Arab, and international consensus, with contributions from international and UN-affiliated institutions.
