AMMAN — Authorities on Saturday said they are investigating a weekend shooting incident in an Amman suburb where a 38-year-old man reportedly shot and killed his daughter then turned the gun on himself, official sources said.

The incident, which occurred on Friday in Nuzha suburb, involved a man who reportedly “shot his six-year-old daughter in the head, then killed himself with a firearm”, a senior judicial source said.

“Investigators found a pistol next to the victims’ bodies,” the source told The Jordan Times.

The victim’s wife, who was in the house, told investigators that her husband called her to come to the room “and asked her if she was ready to die with them, and she said ‘no’ and left”, the source said.

“The woman rushed to her neighbours seeking help but heard gunshots ringing out from her home,” the judicial source added.

When she returned home with the neighbours, the source continued, “they discovered that the two were dead”.

Investigators did not find any notes or indication as to why the man committed the alleged act, the judicial source said.

Criminal Court Prosecutor Sultan Shakhanbeh, who is handling the case, is currently questioning more witnesses to the incident, a second source said.

“Shakhanbeh is questioning relatives and neighbours to learn more about the shooting incident and possible motives,” the second source told The Jordan Times.
