AMMAN — USAID’s Makanati, the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership Activity, on Saturday announced the signing of an agreement with the Business and Professional Women Association.

The agreement aims to support the association in coordinating the implementation of the "Closing Gender Gap Accelerators" programme, an initiative of the Global Economic Forum. This initiative is based on an agreement between the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Global Economic Forum, under which Jordan has become a member of a global network of countries exchanging experiences and taking proactive steps to increase women's economic participation by fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The main objective of this one-year agreement is to create an enabling and inclusive work environment for women in the private sector.  The Makanati project is funded through a memorandum of understanding signed between the Kingdom and the US, which supports economic development programmes across the country.
