Kingdom sees 10 new COVID deaths, 1,723 more infections

AMMAN — Ten COVID-19 deaths and 1,723 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 862,541, the government announced.
The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 11,038, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health.
The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 5.74 per cent.
A total of 30,035 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 10,968,136, according to the statement.
The statement added that1,715 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 830,451.
The statement added that there are currently 21,052 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.
A total of 78 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 590, the statement said, adding that 67 recovered patients have left hospitals.
On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 15 per cent, ICU beds reached 34 cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 15 per cent.
In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 15 per cent, 27 per cent for ICUs and 9 per cent for ventilators.
The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 11 per cent, 12 per cent for ICUs and 12 per cent for ventilators.
The cases comprised 609 in Amman, 322 in Irbid, 123 in Zarqa, 116 in Balqa, 89 in Karak, 34 in Maan, 60 in Jerash, 95 in Aqaba, 63 in Ajloun, 88 in Mafraq, 44 in Tafileh, seven in Petra District, 70 in Madaba, and three cases in RamthaDistrict.
The statement added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 3,950,145, while 3,526,686 have gotten their second shot.
The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,335,661.
