AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday commended the positive steps taken by the US administration in relation to the Palestinian cause and the resumption of support for UNRWA.

At a meeting with representatives of international and US Jewish organisations in New York, King Abdullah called for building on the positive positions of the United States and the international interest to relaunch the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty reaffirmed that there is no alternative to the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, on the June 4, 1967 lines, living side by side with Israel in peace and security.

The King noted the important role of Jewish organisations in supporting efforts to achieve just and lasting peace in the region, stressing the need to avoid any unilateral Israeli measures that could undermine stability.

Moreover, His Majesty stressed the need to preserve the legal and historical status-quo in Jerusalem, reaffirming Jordan’s continued role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city, under the Hashemite Custodianship.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mahmoud Hmoud attended the meeting.
