AMMAN — Parliament on Sunday presented its response to the Speech from the Throne, which was delivered by His Majesty King Abdullah on December 10 to inaugurate the 19th Parliament’s non-ordinary session.

The Senate’s response, delivered by Senate President Faisal Fayez at the Royal Hashemite Court, underscored that the convening of the 19th Parliament, despite the difficult circumstance, is in line with constitutional requirements, bolsters state institutions and the rule of law, and reaffirms the desire to continue advancing the democratic process, according to a Royal Court statement.

In the House of Representatives’ response, Speaker Abdul Monem Odat noted that the current challenges require prioritising national interests, based on the spirit of partnership and separation of powers, and in accordance with the principles of transparency, accountability, the rule of law, fighting corruption, and oversight over public funds.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Judicial Council President Mohammad Ghazou, Constitutional Court President Hisham Tal, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, and Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maaytah attended Parliament’s response to the Speech from the Throne.
