King inaugurates premises of Gendarmerie's Cavalry Unit

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, inaugurated the headquarters of the Gendarmerie Department's Cavalry Unit on Monday.
Received by Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Sweilmin, King Abdullah was briefed by the unit's commander on its assignments and duties, a Royal Court statement said.
The King also observed security drills carried out by the unit, including special exercises on protecting individuals, ensuring security at stadiums and providing backup for anti-riot personnel.
At the end of the visit, the King expressed his appreciation of and pride in the troops, commending their efficiency and competence in safeguarding the country’s accomplishments and protecting human rights and dignity, according to the statement.
HRH Prince Rashid, commander of the SWAT police unit, Portuguese National Republican Guard Commander-General Lt. Gen. Manuel Mateus and several senior Gendarmerie officers attended the inauguration.
