King affirms support for army, security agencies in countering drug smuggling

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday stressed support for the army and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) in their efforts to counter drug smuggling and drug-related crime, as well as any threats to national and regional security.
During a visit to the Public Security Directorate’s AND, King Abdullah commended the army and security agencies for their ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s security, including countering the threats related to drugs and related crimes, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty also noted the AND’s initiatives to raise awareness of the danger of drugs and provide rehabilitation services, as well as protection against this danger.
The King urged drafting a national strategy that engages the public in efforts to safeguard all from drug-related threats.
His Majesty was also briefed on AND’s plans and procedures, as well as the latest figures on countering drug smuggling and the amounts of confiscated drugs.
