Jordan, Oman issue joint communiqué, underline deep-rooted ties, centrality of Palestinian cause

AMMAN — A joint Jordanian-Omani statement was issued on Thursday at the conclusion of Oman Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq visit to Jordan.

The statement highlighted the close ties between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Sultanate of Oman.

Their Majesties expressed pride in the deep-rooted historical relations between Jordan and Oman and their keenness to build on these relations to strengthen cooperation mechanisms in various fields to achieve the desired integration.

Their Majesties praised the cooperation achieved between the two countries following the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah to Oman in October 2022, and the outcomes of the 11th session of the Jordanian-Omani Joint Higher Committee in July 2023.

They also commended the mutual visits of officials in investment, trade, industry, free zones, and the progress made in several vital sectors including pharmaceuticals, mining, communications, information technology and real estate development.

They stressed the importance of continuing to develop bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in sectors linked to Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision and Oman’s Vision 2040.

King Abdullah and Sultan Haitham highlighted the need to implement the signed agreements, memoranda of understanding, and executive programmes between the two countries, and to translate them into practical steps that positively reflect the interests of the two countries.

In the context of coordination and consultation, Their Majesties discussed ways to enhance joint Arab action aimed at addressing current issues, emerging challenges, and serving Arab causes.

Their Majesties reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the necessity of reaching a just solution that ends the occupation and fulfils all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

They welcomed the decisions of Norway, Ireland, and Spain to recognise Palestine, considering it an important and fundamental step to affirm that the path to peace is through the two-state solution, which lead to an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Their Majesties discussed the aggression on the Gaza Strip, emphasising the international community’s responsibility to stop it, calling for the UN Security Council to impose an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid by all possible means, and prevent further escalation.

They affirmed the necessity of continuing to provide the required support to UNRWA to enable it to perform its crucial role.

They also expressed their rejection of any actions that would expand the war regionally, condemning the consequences of a ground assault on Rafah city.

Their Majesties rejected attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, considering them as part of the Palestinian state, and attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands.

They warned against the continued dangerous Israeli escalation measures in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, and the rising terrorist attacks by settlers on Palestinians and humanitarian aid convoys.

Their Majesties stressed the necessity of preserving the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
