AMMAN — Jordan this week discussed development cooperation and the challenges of hosting Syrian refugees with Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Norway and the UNDP, according to the Planning and International Cooperation Ministry.

On the sidelines of his participation at the third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury held talks focusing on Jordan’s development cooperation portfolios with these donors as well as discussing recent updates on the socio-economic front.

Additionally, the minister discussed the continued impact of the regional situation and hosting about 1.4 million Syrians in Jordan, reiterating the urgency of mobilising additional resources to finance the Jordan Response Plan to be able to respond to both humanitarian and resilience needs.

Fakhoury and the UNDP official also discussed the organisation of the Resilience Development Forum, which will be held in Jordan in November at the regional level, according to the statement.

Representatives of concerned regional governments as well as UN agencies are due to discuss challenges facing the region as a result of the Syrian crisis and the mechanism of mobilising sufficient financial support to address those challenges.

The two sides also discussed the possibility for organising another donor conference to promote international support for Jordan to help it deal with the burdens of the Syrian crisis and to finance the response plan of the Syrian crisis for 2016-2018.

The minister also participated as a speaker in a roundtable discussion organised by the UN Regional Commissions on “Regional Perspectives on Implementing an Ambitious, Transformative, Sustainable Development Agenda” on the sidelines of the conference, which concludes on Thursday.
