AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with Albanian President Bujar Nishani in Tirana, during which they discussed bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern.

Both leaders examined available opportunities that both countries can benefit from and means to develop ties in a way that serves both countries' and peoples' interests, especially in economic fields, where Jordan enjoys competitive and investment advantages.

The talks addressed the latest regional developments concerning the Islamic world, especially efforts to counter terrorism and extremism “that have nothing to do with Islam”, according to a Royal Court statement.

King Abdullah outlined the outcome of Jordan's contacts with various Arab and Islamic parties, aimed to serve Islam and its just causes, stressing that Jordan has always focused during international events and encounters on Islam's true nature that calls for moderation and peace as the basis of coexistence.

His Majesty also reviewed the political situation in the Middle East, especially the Syrian crisis and its repercussions, the situation in Iraq and endeavours geared towards achieving peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis based on the two-state solution.

For his part, Nishani said that King Abdullah’s visit was a fruitful opportunity to develop bilateral relations at different levels.

He noted that his country looks at Jordan as an oasis of peace and stability and a gateway to the region, in terms of economic and investment plans, in addition to its important political role in regional and international issues.

The Albanian president also praised the Jordanian role in efforts to achieve and enhance world peace and security, and defend the true image of Islam.

At a press conference following the talks, the King said: “Our common values, shared outlook and close proximity give us ample reason to believe that we will be able to work together to create a prosperous future for our people.”

“Indeed, our talks today moved our countries closer towards building greater bilateral cooperation and exchanges. Jordan is keen to see this relationship advance and strengthen,” the King said.

“Albania, a country of Muslims and Christians living side-by-side, like Jordan, knows that what is more essential than the military battle, is the battle of hearts and minds to spread the messages of tolerance, moderation and religious coexistence.”

“Your Excellency recently spoke about the importance of coexistence and the role of religious teaching at the International Conference on Islam and Global Peace,” His Majesty said.

“Jordan as well actively contributes to inter- and intrafaith initiatives, promoting peaceful dialogue. I am pleased to know we have a like-minded partner in these continuous efforts,” the King said.

His Majesty concluded by saying: “Once again, my brother, Mr President, it was a pleasure meeting you during this productive visit; one that I hope marks a great beginning of closer ties and opening opportunities between our two countries.”

Nishani said there are a lot of fields where both countries can develop bilateral relations, especially at the economic, tourist, scientific and educational levels.

He also noted that Albania supported Jordan in its bid to win the non-permanent UN Security Council membership, and it supports the Kingdom’s role in enhancing peace and security in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

The president also expressed his appreciation of Jordan’s stance towards Kosovo, its people and causes, especially since Jordan was the first Islamic state to recognise Kosovo’s independence in 2009.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan, Jordan’s non-resident Ambassador to Albania Fawaz Itan and senior Albanian officials also attended the talks.

Nishani held a lunch banquet in honour of His Majesty and the accompanying delegation.

The King also met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and discussed with him ways to enhance Jordanian-Albanian ties in different fields.

King Abdullah acquainted Rama with Jordan’s safe environment that can be utilised to build future partnerships and investments, in addition to the Kingdom’s qualified human resources that contributed to placing Jordan among top countries in achieving regional prosperity and progress.

Rama stressed his country’s keenness to build good relations with the Kingdom, and to benefit from its expertise in various fields and the economic opportunities available.
