JAF marks World Interfaith Harmony Week

AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) on Monday marked the World Interfaith Harmony Week. During the ceremony at Prince Hassan College of Islamic Sciences, which featured the participation of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, JAF Mufti Col. Imam Al Mukhtara highlighted the values of Islam in relation to coexistence, tolerance and respect for different religions and cultures, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Director of the Jordanian Interfaith Coexistence Research Centre, Father Nabil Haddad, said that interfaith harmony is part of the Kingdom’s diplomatic and political ideology.  Rob Pelton, a cleric from the US, expressed his gratitude for his involvement in Interfaith Week, which showcased the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah. Pelton commended the friendship that unites Muslims and Christians in Jordan, based on principles of tolerance, peace, cooperation, and mutual respect. The annual event was first proposed by His Majesty King Abdullah at the UN General Assembly on October 20, 2010, and is observed annually during the first week of February.
