AMMAN — An official military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) on Wednesday denied reports that were circulated on social media platforms that a Jordanian soldier opened fire on Israelis near the northern borders.
On Tuesday morning, security personnel suspected a smuggling operation in the Jordanian-Syrian-Israeli triangle area, Wadi Qalid, which led Jordanian Border Guards of the northern military region to open fire to ensure that the area is free of smugglers, a normal routine procedure to maintain the security and safety of the borders, the source said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
At that time, an Israeli patrol passed on the opposite side, the source added, noting that after addressing the situation the Israeli patrol continued its movement inside the Israeli borders without any friction. The JAF exhorted the public to follow authorised sources for credible information, Petra added.
