Security campaign in Central Badia leads to arrests, drug seizures

AMMAN —  A joint special force from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) and security agencies raided hideouts of several smugglers and drug dealers near the border areas of the Eastern Military Zone in the early hours of Tuesday. 

 Seven wanted individuals were arrested in the operation with investigation revealing their direct links to regional drug gangs and smugglers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

A JAF source stated that the operation resulted in the apprehension of 15 smugglers. The PSD spokesperson underlined the department’s continued efforts, in coordination with the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) – Arab Army, in cracking down on drug traffickers and eliminating their threat to the national security.

Also on Tuesday, joint and simultaneous security campaign was carried out following the gathering of information on individuals involved in repeated cases of drug trafficking and distribution in the Central Badia region, the Public Security Directorate’s spokesperson announced on Tuesday. 

The campaign and subsequent raids resulted in the arrest of five people, including a high-risk individual found in possession of 27,000 illicit pills and 90 palm-sized sheets of hashish, the spokesperson noted, adding that another drug dealer was arrested during the operation with 10 palm-sized sheets of hashish and two firearms.

He also said that the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel  handled several cases across the Kingdom.  In Amman, a raid led to the arrest of a drug dealer and the seizure of 39,000 illicit pills. Another case in Maan included the arrest of a drug dealer with 33,000 pills. 

In Mafraq, two cases involving drug traffickers were handled, the first caught in possession of 13 palm-sized sheets of hashish and the second with eight. In addition, in one of the Southern Shouneh regions, an attempt by a repeat drug offender to grow marijuana plants was stopped. The suspect was arrested and the plants were confiscated.
