Inflation inches up 0.5 per cent in first half of 2019

AMMAN — The inflation rate in the first half of 2019 rose by 0.5 per cent, compared with the same period of last year, the Department of Statistics (DoS) reported on Sunday.
The increase was attributed to rising prices of beans and vegetables by 0.37 per cent, cereals by 0.26 per cent for each, rents by 0.35 per cent, education by 0.1 per cent and fuel and electricity by 0.05 per cent.
The DoS also added that price declines were witnessed in meat and poultry by 0.28 per cent, dairy products and eggs by 0.16 per cent while transportation and tobacco products by 0.15 and 0.06 per cent, respectively.
