AMMAN — Temperatures are set to rise on Saturday, when a relatively hot air mass will move into the Kingdom, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.

It will be the second hot air mass to affect the country in less than a week, the first of which caused temperatures to reach 37ºC in Amman between Monday and Wednesday, according to the JMD.

A moderate air mass started affecting the country on Wednesday night, bringing temperatures back to around the annual average of 31ºC for this time of year.

“The relatively hot air mass is expected to push temperatures three to five degrees above the annual average,” JMD meteorologist Laila Shaheen told The Jordan Times.

The weather on Friday will be relatively hot in mountainous areas and hot in the rest of the Kingdom, according to the JMD, which said that temperatures will be 31ºC during the day and drop to 19ºC at night in Amman, while winds will be northeasterly to northwesterly moderate.

A rise in temperatures is forecast for Saturday, when the weather will be relatively hot across the country, according to the department, which indicated that winds will be northeasterly to northwesterly moderate, while temperatures will reach a high of 34ºC and a low of 23ºC in the capital.

Another increase in temperatures is expected on Sunday, rising five to six degrees above the annual average during this time, according to the department.

Sunday’s weather will be hot across the country and very hot in the Dead Sea, Aqaba and the Jordan Valley, while  temperatures will range between a maximum of 36ºC and a minimum of 24ºC, while winds will be northeasterly moderate, turning southwesterly in the afternoon.

The department indicated that a slight drop in temperatures is expected on Monday, but they will remain higher than the annual average for this time of year.
