Foreign ministry welcomes Security Council’s renewed Yemen's Houthi arms embargo

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2624, released Monday, which extends an arms embargo on Yemen’s Houthi militia. 

The resolution also named the Houthi movement a terrorist group and condemned their attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Ministry spokesperson Haitham Abu Al Foul emphasised the Kingdom’s stance on the importance of putting an end to the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the recognised terms of reference and prior international resolutions, including UNSC Resolution 2216, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The solution should also rely on the outcomes of the comprehensive Yemeni national dialogue, he added, in addition to the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism.

Abu Al Foul stressed the Kingdom’s firm support for all of the steps that Saudi Arabia and the UAE have taken in order to protect their security and interests, adding that the security of the Arabian Gulf is part of Jordan’s security. 

Jordan rejects any attack on its allies, he said, renewing the Kingdom’s backing for any steps that support stability in the Gulf.
