AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic and Expatriate Affairs Majid Qatarneh met on Monday with the President and members of the United Nations special committee concerned with investigating Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arab inhabitants in the occupied territories.

Qatarneh said during the meeting that the international community cannot continue to overlook Israeli practices and policies in the Palestinian territories.

He stressed the necessity to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza and ensure the entry of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to the strip, which has been experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe since October 7.

He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza through all means and methods, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah. He referred to the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza, hosted by the Kingdom on the June, organised jointly by Jordan, Egypt and the United Nations.

Qatarneh warned against the danger of illegitimate Israeli actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem, emphasising the need for Israel to comply with international law.

On their part, the committee’s president, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Ambassador Mohan Pieris, and its members expressed their appreciation for Jordan’s efforts to stop the war, ensure the protection of civilians, and play a pivotal role in delivering humanitarian aid to the strip.

They affirmed that these efforts reflect Jordan’s commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their just cause, as well as the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
