AMMAN — The Department of Statistics (DoS) participated in the 56th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York, alongside heads and representatives of statistical offices, international data centres and international organisations.

During the session, DoS Director General Haidar Freihat emphasised the importance of international cooperation, joint efforts, and knowledge exchange in enhancing the production of accurate and reliable data, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Freihat also called for the development of digital platforms to facilitate data sharing and underscored the role of descriptive statistics in supporting informed decision-making. He also stressed the need for national statistical systems to align with international standards to ensure data quality and credibility.

He highlighted the significance of capacity-building initiatives and the allocation of resources to strengthen statistical methodologies in line with international best practices.

The session covered key topics such as national accounts, population and housing censuses, data science, indicators for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and food security and nutrition.
