Deficit drops thanks to increased exports

AMMAN — The deficit and trade balance in the first six months of 2018 dropped by 5 per cent when compared with the same period of last year, thanks to the increase of national exports by 2.5 per cent, the Department of Statistics said on Monday.
The department said that the Kingdom’s total exports covered 37.2 per cent of imports during the first half of 2018, compared with 35.5 per cent in the same period of 2017, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Trade deficit dropped during the first quarter (Q1) of this year by 4.6 per cent due to higher exports. According to data issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS), the deficit dropped by JD113.5 million to JD2,327.5 million from JD2,441 million recorded during Q1 of 2013.
