AMMAN — Finance Minister Ezzeddine Kanakrieh on Tuesday sent a letter to Director General of the Customs Department Lt. Gen. Abdul Majid Rahamneh, congratulating him on the Customs Department’s recent awarding of the ISO 27001 certification.
The Customs Department is the first governmental institution to receive ISO 27001 certification, which is a specification for an information security management system, according to a Customs Department statement.
Kanakrieh also commended the role of the Customs Department in protecting and enhancing the national economy through their efforts in countering smuggling and illicit trade. He also thanked customs employees for their work in upgrading the level of performance at the department.
The minister underscored the need for a comprehensive revision of procedures to evaluate them, pinpoint areas of weakness and continue with the improvement process, the statement said.
He pointed to the importance of encouraging investment and facilitating trade in ways that do not interfere with efforts to combat smuggling and illicit trading activities.
Rahamneh highlighted that ISO certification will increase the Customs Department’s keenness to provide the highest standards of digitised services, in addition to pushing the department to work harder towards implementing His Majesty King Abdullah’s vision.
He pointed out that the implementation of digitised customs services is 98 per cent complete.
