Cabinet greenlights 2023 initiatives, including student support fund, ministry restructuring

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a number of initiatives for 2023, giving the green light to the student support fund for public universities, and amendments to the administrative structure of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship aimed at establishing organisational units dedicated to cybersecurity tasks, monitoring and evaluating achievements within the ministry, and managing comprehensive government service centres.

The Council also approved the draft bylaw rationale concerning  the legal rationales to the draft law on the Authority for Service and General Administration, this authority is set to replace the Civil Service Bureau in 2024, with the responsibility of overseeing policies and standards related to human resources and ensuring compliance to planning and appointments regulations.

The cabinet also approved a memorandum of understanding between Jordan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, under which the UAE's $400 million grant will fund development projects in multiple sectors such as energy, education, digitalisation and tourism over the period from 2024 to 2026.

The Council of Ministers also gave green light to Jordan's endorsement of two initiatives and declarations, to be launched during the UAE World Climate Change Summit: COP28 Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP), and the Gender-Responsive Just Transitions, and Climate Action Partnership and the Relief, Recovery and Peace Declaration.

The Cabinet also approved Jordan's support for the UAE Declaration on Resilient Food Systems, Sustainable Agriculture, and Climate Action, which will be presented at the World Climate Change Summit. 

The Cabinet also decided to appoint Jamal Al Shamieleh as Commissioner-General for Human Rights and Yazan Al Ouran as Secretary-General of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau.
