Cabinet approves number of decisions, amendments to academic work in universities

AMMAN — The Cabinet, on its Sunday session headed by Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh, passed an amendment to a bylaw pertaining to performing academic work in universities and colleges for the year 2021, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Under the amendment, the period granted for the academic staff members who obtained their degrees using a scholarship to secure an academic work leave will be extended.
Those unable to obtain an academic work leave will be suspended from work for a period not exceeding one year with their salaries and bonuses suspended as well. Finally, appointment of those who still could not obtain the leave will be terminated.
The Cabinet also approved the decision of the Investment Council to exempt income obtained through merging companies operating in the banking sector from income taxes.
Similarly, the Cabinet approved an agreement with Kenya in the field of commercial maritime transport with the aim of bolstering bilateral relations between the two countries.
On the other hand, the Council of Ministers decided to appoint Jalal Qudah as director general of the Jordan Customs Department, as of May 30.
