Awqaf Ministry employee under investigation for abuse of public funds

AMMAN — Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat has referred a ministry employee to the attorney general’s office on suspicion of abuse of public funds, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the ministry’s media office said the employee is suspected to be involved in the disappearance of 15 record books of receipts covering 2013-2015.
The conclusion was after an investigation by a committee from the ministry’s internal monitoring unit and employees from the Audit Bureau. The attorney general, based on a letter from the minister, decided to freeze the employee’s assets pending further investigation, Petra reported.
