AMMAN — The Garment Traders Association on Friday demanded that the government exempt children’s clothes and shoes from customs fees and taxes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The president of the association, Munir Deyeh, said that children’s clothes and shoes are basic and necessary commodities for Jordanian families.
Deyeh added that the current fees and taxes prevent thousands of families from buying new clothes for their children during festivities. He also said that the total number of various taxes and fees imposed on imported children’s clothes amount to 43 per cent of the clothes’ costs.
Deyeh also said that the amount of children’s clothes imported in 2018 constituted 30 per cent out of the total amount of clothes the country imported.
