AMMAN — The Jordan Press Foundation/Al Rai (JPF) and Al Ahliyya Amman University on Saturday signed a cooperation agreement, under which training courses will be held through Al Rai.

As part of the accord, which was signed by JPF Director General Farid Silwani and Ahliyya President Sari Hamdan, symposiums and studies will be conducted by coordinating the objectives of both institutions.

The agreement seeks to enhance and develop information management methods and establish specialised centres within the field, in addition to contributing to the administration of the media literacy file with a focus on freedom of expression and the right to know.

The accord will witness coordination among various institutions to lay the foundation on which measures will be exerted to combat the spread of rumours and hate speech through traditional and social media platforms.

The agreement will also facilitate bilateral access to documents, information and expertise by publishing a code of conduct and necessary guidelines to ensure and protect the free-flow of information.

The two sides will also exchange expertise in providing amendment recommendations to legislation and by-laws pertaining to freedom of speech and combating hate speech.

For its part, Al Rai will be offering its expertise to the university on establishing a media college, in addition to setting curricula and providing practical training.

Meanwhile, the university will facilitate the participation of Al Rai in local and regional symposiums and conferences addressing free speech.
