AMMAN — The Jordan Press Foundation’s (JPF) Al Rai newspaper and the Public Security Department (PSD) on Thursday signed a memorandum of cooperation for media training and the exchange of expertise.

The memorandum was signed by PSD Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud and JPF Director General Farid Silwani, with the attendance of JPF Chairman Ayman Majali.

During the signing, Majali expressed his appreciation for the continuous cooperation between the JPF and the PSD in serving the interests of citizens and raising awareness about security services and combating crime.

Majali also commended the level of professionalism and skill that the PSD’s media department has achieved in terms of spreading awareness.

For his part, Hmoud stressed the importance of cooperation between institutions, especially security services and the media, in facing various challenges and threats.

He added that the media is a key strategic partner to the PSD in sustaining security and stability in the Kingdom, combating crime and protecting public property.

Hmoud lauded the PSD’s partnership with the JPF and Al Rai, which since its foundation has been “a voice for justice” and a platform for “unbiased and objective truth”.

“Al Rai constitutes a window for readers and public institutions to spread knowledge on a number of causes that matter to the Jordanian citizen,” Hmoud added.

During the signing, Silwani affirmed the importance of the memorandum in enhancing JPF-PSD cooperation towards the production of “professional and objective content”.

As part of the agreement, courses will be held for the PSD’s media recruits at Al Rai’s media training centre and a number of them will be enrolled in a specialised technical diploma programme.

The two sides will also work together to implement various awareness campaigns.
