AMMAN — The Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday signed an agreement meant to establish a regional office for the Arab Centre for the Study of Arid and Desert Regions (ACSAD), an Arab League-affiliated institution. Minister of Agriculture Khaled Huneifat, during the signing ceremony, expressed the importance of ACSAD's regional office as a vital addition to support and promote the agricultural sector and highlighted its role in implementing development plans for the sector. Huneifat highlighted the need for studies and projects that address water management, the expansion of green areas and the improvement of animal resources, especially in light of the significant impact of climate change. Nasraldin Obeid, director general of ACSAD, commended Jordan's early commitment as one of the first Arab countries to sign the agreement to establish the centre. He also highlighted ongoing cooperation between the two sides, including joint development projects such as the rehabilitation of degraded land in Jordan's Badia using advanced rainwater harvesting techniques, among others. Other initiatives include irrigation water management using the AquaCrop model.
