AMMAN — A reprint of the 41st issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt, is distributed with Monday’s Jordan Times issue.
The newspaper, which was printed in Mecca a century ago, dedicated its editorial, written by the chief editor, Fuad Al Khatib, to remind people of the “requirements of the renaissance”.
Khatib urged all Arabs to support the rising Arab state and show belonging to their pan-national identity as Arabs.
He reminded his readers of the atrocities and injustices brought about by the ruling Union and Progress ultranationalist Turkish government.
A major part of page two was dedicated to describe the situation of Arab countries that were still under the Turkish rule. On the following page, a long poem was run, describing this very situation and urging action against the oppressors.
The issue included a variety of local news and international developments.
The distribution of the paper (1916-1924) by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
